I was pleased to hear from supporters that the brilliant Mark Steyn got stuck into Mark Speakman, the NSW Attorney General, for his vilification of me this week. It is  extraordinary that the chief legal officer of the state simply reproduced the misleading complaints against me that have formed the basis of the malicious campaign to remove my honour award.

I am posting separately extracts of  the Steyn broadcast - see post below. It's well worth a listen.

And here's the press release my supporters have put together about all this:

Famous Canadian commentator Mark Steyn slams NSW Attorney General for his attack on Bettina Arndt

“Screw you, Mr Attorney General of NSW. You’re supposed to be the Attorney General of a jurisdiction that believes in the random cacophony of conflicting ideas and you want to revoke the Order of Australia from a woman who is guilty of no crime other than of disagreeing with you. Up yours, you’re unfit for your office. Why don’t we revoke your job?”

This is the famous Canadian commentator Mark Steyn speaking out this week in his weekly online broadcast about AG’s attack on Bettina Arndt.

The NSW Attorney General recently demanded Arndt’s Order of Australia be revoked. One of Steyn’s listeners wrote in, describing the situation as follows:

“The NSW Attorney General, by name of Mark Speakman has inflamed the public humiliation of Bettina Arndt by recommending that she be stripped of the Order of Australia simply because her opinion didn’t align with the opinion of her detractors.”

Steyn describes Arndt’s important work as an advocate for men, outlining the many areas where she rightly points out that women are receiving unfair advantage over men and boys.

He’s scathing about this attempt by the state to control the public dialogue. He says what this means is:

"the baubles of the State can only be handed out to those who accept the State ideology. The Attorneys General in Australia are basically saying ‘You get the Order of Australia for agreeing with the State.’”

He saves his most trenchant criticism for sell-out of conservative principles by Coalition politicians, mentioning the recent action by the Australian Senate passing a motion to condemn Arndt.

“What’s pathetic is the way the so-called conservatives all fall into line. The proper thing to do is, even if you don’t want to vote against it, is to say, this really isn’t the business of the Australian Senate deciding which persons are suddenly unpersons.”

“I’m not in favour of so-called conservative Senators in Australia getting panicked into unpersoning a person. That not a conservative thing to do.”

It takes a Canadian commentator to speak out about the unpersoning of Bettina Arndt while all the key advocates of free speech in Australia run for cover.  What’s happened to our big organisations which attract so much funding to defend these rights? Where are they now?
