Why men kill themselves
Over twenty years ago, federal member of parliament Greg Wilton took his own life. The tragedy was the culmination of a series of events which highlight how poorly we deal with vulnerable men. Three weeks earlier, Wilton had been found “in a distressed state” with his children in a car in the national park, apparently rigging a hose to the exhaust. It was widely reported as an attempted murder-suicide. He spent time in psychiatric care, but with his Labor colleagues maneuvering to force him...

Politics Cannot Solve Our Problems
Politics Cannot Solve Our Problems Dear Friends,It seems to me, our society has become enthralled by the lie, that politics can solve all our problems. When the exact opposite is usually the case. Most of our problems directly result from politics. If you don’t think of it, it makes perfect sense that government could solve any problem. The State has the money, the power to pass laws and a monopoly on violence. It wields incredible power. The reasoning goes, with that much power, the State...
The evolution of a human female
There are only 12 tones of music. Any piece of music no matter how complex is composed of different octaves and combinations of the 12 tones. Likewise everything in life is composed of the 12 astrological archetypes. 12 rulers of life. As Jonathan Pageau says; "Everything is patterns". Here the evolution of a human female

SPECIAL WEEKEND THOUGHT: 👉 Trusting a Holy...
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4 NIV)“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. ‘I am the vine;...

BackgroundIn the mid-90s the Mongolian People's Republic had just begun to recover from the chaos of transitioning to a free-market economy. Mongolia was a satellite state of the Soviet Union until late 1988, when the USSR began to dissolve. Hundreds of government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), missionary sending agencies, and relief workers flooded the country during this period. At one point, the only textbook available for a foreigner to learn Mongolian was written in the...
SPECIAL WEEKEND THOUGHT: 👉 Making Disciples...
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NIV)Earlier this week, someone asked me what I thought about the phrase “make disciples of all nations”. On its surface, this phrase appears to support followers of Jesus putting pressure on national leadership to conform to some...
Marx's reputation: intellectual basis or...
I've taken heat for saying Marx was not taken seriously on *philosophical* or *economic* grounds -- and that his reputation was made primarily for *political* reasons, i.e., the success of the Russian Revolution's activists decades after his death. So it's nice to see this chart:
20220622: Faith And Free Will
Hypothetical: You are an atheist and are sitting out back on your porch enjoying a fine summer evening. The sun has just set and a large, beautiful moon is high in the sky. Suddenly, to one side of the moon and as large, appears a head-and-shoulders of an ancient-looking man, just like the stereotypical depiction of God the Father you see in Medieval art: long, white hair and beard; halo; etc. His hand appears out of nowhere and grabs the Earth, stopping it; yet no one dies, no earthquakes...
Her son found not guilty
Recently a long ordeal finally ended for an ordinary Australian family. Their son, Lucas, was found not guilty of sexual contact with a child. The female judge who delivered this verdict said she believed Lucas’ version of events – not the vile accusations that led him to spend seven months in prison, nor the vicious rumours in the local paper describing him as a “pedo” and leading to death threats on social media. I’ve made a video with Lucas’ mother, Debbie Garratt, a brave woman who has...
Need a title for your postmodern essay?
The postmodern rules for titles are: Use at least one “neo-” and/or “de-” prefix, indicate a “critical” stance towards “capitalist” and/or “patriarchal,” and stick a colon in the middle.Try this generator: https://www.stephenhicks.org/2022/06/07/how-to-make-a-title-for-your-postmodern-essay/ 😎 Sample: "De-stabilizing post-capitalist hegemony: a neo-Foucauldian reading."
Science as Bad Religion
Science as Bad Religionby Asa BoxerThe following is an excerpt from the first chapter of a book I've been working on exploring how science has become a recidivist project kicking over the traces of secular civilisation. Here we begin to examine the recent covid scare as a case study. The chapter is 10 pages long, so I thought it best for this venue to break it apart into several segments. The secular refers to the worldly, as opposed to the churchly. Although dictionaries tend to set the...
20220620: Variable Rate
A recent look at 15 and 30 year mortgage rates show that they have doubled in a very short period of time; and these are the fixed rates. Imagine having a variable rate mortgage (or credit card, or whatever) and seeing your monthly bill go up and up and up. I feel very sorry for people in these situations, many had no choice. However, some of them basically bought outside of what they could afford, and are paying the price. That $30.00 lunch you had last year (and technically is still in...
20220613: Routine
I give my dogs a spoonful of peanut butter every day around 5:30PM so that they learn it as a routine. Sometimes, they need to take medication, and I know I can put it in the peanut butter. We use routines to make our lives more efficient, especially for time-sensitive events. I know that advertising tries to tell us to "break out of that same old, boring routine" and it's great to experience new things, but review why you have that routine in the first place. It's probably a good thing.
20220607: Creatures Of Habit
We are such creatures of habit, we even have a saying "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" (usually attributed to Albert Einstein, though there's no evidence). This is because our habitual instincts are so strong, that we almost appear to be insane. "Muscle memory" is just another way of saying "really strong habit", but it can get out of hand in which case we call it OCD. I have a specific route that I take to work each...
Science as Bad Religion Part 2
Science as Bad Religion Part 2by Asa BoxerLast week I posted Part 1 of this excerpt from the first chapter of my book. Today we continue examining the covid panic as a case study in how 21st century science is behaving, not according to data, but according to institutional systems that have lost the spirit of secular science altogether, imposing instead a kind of pseudo-religion or cult in which populations are expected to follow The Science with blind faith. Last week, after considering the...

20220531: My Reality
I hate the term "my reality" or even "my lived reality" especially when used by a value-signaling cancel-cultured loser. They are implying that you can't argue with them because it's "their" reality and not yours; what they are doing is misidentifying "perception" with reality. We have different perspectives and experiences but there is only one reality. Your perception that 2+2=5 isn't "your reality", it's you being wrong. However, if they instead said that their experience is that, more...
I want to make sure you´re okay.
Im sorry to whoever decides to read this, its my first time writing. My first short storyTitle: I want to make sure you´re okay.I arrived home at 1:00 AM Friday night feeling ashamed of myself. I always feel so out of place at parties, like I don't belong there but it's not really surprising, that's how I feel everywhere, except when i'm playing golf. It's been a long time since I have made a meaningful connection with someone, and I go out every weekend trying to find something meaningful,...
20220601: Hammer/Nail
"When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." I love this saying, because even though each one of us has a limited tool kit for facing the world, we should at least be open to the idea that there are other tools "out there" and we can try to learn new skills or reach out to others who might have a different skillset/toolkit than we do. :-)

We just have to say no.Saying No to Critical Race TheoryI want to explain Critical Race Theory to you. I just want to help you understand it, so I sat down with my microphone and no real plan except to talk through the claims, history, and thought of Critical Race Theory, highlighting where it came from and why it's a terrible way to think abou...newdiscourses.com
20220602: Hammer/Nail, Part II
My post yesterday was about one of my favorite sayings: "When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." Another favorite saying of mine, in keeping with the theme, is: "The nail that sticks up, gets hammered down." The hammer as a tool, it seems, has a very strong provenance.
20220603: Hammer/Nail, Part III
Two days ago I posted one of my favorite sayings: "When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." Yesterday, I posted another favorite saying of mine: "The nail that sticks up, gets hammered down." Lastly, today, I'd like to post the "opposite" of yesterday's post which is: "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." It's interesting that there are two sayings about a situation that have diametrically opposed solutions: squeaky wheel/stuck up nail gets grease/hammered down. :-)...

Here's an open question. What is your feeling, or sense, of the term "social media?"I'll tell you mine, (just for shits and giggles.) I just mentioned this in a comment, in fact. "Social Media" is becoming synonymous with "Hell." I guess that's right outta Sartre - Hell is other people - but I never resonated with that idea before Facebook introduced the "like" button. In my experience, Hell was never other real people. I had Sartre down as an absurdist - and worse, an absurdist with no...

20220605: All Dogs Go To Heaven
All dogs go to heaven: how do I know this? Well, I've owned many dogs in my life and unfortunately, they pass much quicker than us humans. Each time we mourn the loss of one of our dogs, I think that it's true that all dogs go to heaven because I can't imagine being in heaven without them. Granted, there's no scriptural evidence to directly back me up but we do hear about mansions, and rooms, and New Jerusalem, so I'm just extrapolating a bit. :-)
20220606: Moon Pie MAGIC!
My wife brought me home a MoonPie from work - I haven't had one in forever! I still remembered the taste, always delicious. I knew they've been on the market for decades and decades but didn't realize they've been around for over 100 YEARS (1917)! A quick trip to their website reveals that they make about a MILLION MoonPies a day!

1They got word finally. It was now a little over two hours since Dukk had been woken by the airlock door. “Dukk, we have secured the interceptor,” Mentor could be heard saying on the short-range broadcast channel. “Excellent timing,” Dukk replied. “We are ready with the container.” “We have another problem!” “I’m listening.” “The master codes don’t work. They must have changed them. The device is a nuke. It is armed. We really don’t want to be anywhere near this when it goes off. It is...
That just happened
I have learned to be very attached to my own intelligence. There are reasons being intelligent became a primary ingredient in my identity structure. I can guess at a few of them. They have to do with childhood experiences, of course. I’ll not bore you with them – and, come to think of it, I’ll not bore myself with them either. Memories are false, and also true. There is nothing in reality that comes up smelling Either/Or. Let’s leave the ridiculous in the realm of the conceptual, where it...

Sin, Awakening, Liberation
Nothing can be righted unless it is perceived that it is wrong. In this painting, by William Holman Hunt, 1827-1910, British, a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a young woman is suddenly made aware (or, is convicted) of her sin. She is seen to be rising to her feet whereas she had been sitting on the lap of a male friend – bit of a Victorian dandy, I guess you could say. He’s clueless, isn’t he? You just want to smack him. But, let’s look at that expression on her face. It isn’t...

Deliberate and Malicious Mischaracterization...
Dear Jordan Peterson, In the unlikely event that you actually end up reading this, most humble salutations to you as the writer considers you one of his Guru-s- a profoundly serious and ‘heavy’ title to confer upon somebody. However, to my dismay, I write this to you in disappointment and fury, regarding a vicious and gross mischaracterization of my faith- Hinduism- by Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi, who appeared on your podcast aired a few days back. To say that we have been let down would be an...
20220609: One Time's A Charm!
I finally got around to breaking a habit today by going to work using a different route... and shaving 6 minutes off my commute! That's a time-savings of nearly 15% and I suspect the gas savings will be equivalent. Sometimes, the logic (or the math) is strong enough to move you to action.
20220610: The Inelasticity Of Gasoline
The inelasticity of gasoline means that in order to have any income, I need to drive to/from work every day - I have no choice. Whether gas is $2 a gallon or $5, I go through almost a tank a week. Now, eventually it might get so bad that I'll try to find a way to carpool (almost impossible) or something; but for now, we are cutting things out to make the budget work. That cutting is being done by just about everyone, which is why a huge recession is coming.
20220612: The "Joys" Of Vacation
My children treated me to a trip this weekend (a "staycation") as an early Father's Day gift. Unfortunately, I must've eaten something that "disagreed" with me and now I'm suffering the "joys" of vacation. Not their fault, and I am very grateful for all they do for me. :-)
Mysterious ways
As I get deeper into this exploration of Spirituality – of my own self, that is to say, rather than academically – I am shunning and avoiding the political world altogether because I feel I have to. The mere thought of its existence so disgusts me that my sense is this isn’t the time. It causes a contraction. It fires up my limbic system to even hear the word “politics,” or to be in the proximity of people who speak of it. It feels horrible. It is like smelling something dead, revolting....
Pandering to women won't save conservative...
For the last month or two, Australians have been treated to unabashed celebration from our biased media about the ousting of the conservative government, and wild assertions that this was all due to angry women turning on the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison. No mention, of course, of the fact that conservative parties everywhere are now struggling to attract women. Irrespective of how desperately the Coalition tried to win them over, women are turning left. Five years ago, I wrote about the...
20220614: Tradition
I mentioned yesterday about the idea of routines. When a routine gets passed down as a behavior or belief in society, it becomes a tradition. Traditions usually hold some significance, represent some understanding, or include some distilled wisdom for those who are taught it. So, the next time you feel your routines have you "in a rut", just call them traditions! :-)
Justified Genocide
Justified Genocide Dear Friends,It seems to me, the elite are replacing us, because they have had it with us. How many times have we rejected their advances to fundamentally change America into a grand totalitarian nightmare? Our intransigence has got out of hand, and so we need to be replaced with people whom the elite feel would be better suited to their, enlightened oppression. The last straw was voting for the outsider Donald Trump. How could we? The elite were justly livid since that...

20220615: Anticipation
Anticipation usually means we are expecting something (news, result, visit) in the near future. I just got word about a possible job prospect and that I'm "in the running". So now, of course, I'm in anticipation of the next step (invitation to an interview). It could come in a few days or even a few weeks - the anticipation is killing me! :-)

Crisis by design?Last week, in “Welcome to the Board”, we discussed boards—their duties and responsibilities. In addition to the common boards that you are familiar with, like school boards, there are many administrative boards that have been given rule or code making responsibilities by the state legislature. The Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) is one of these powerful unelected boards. The State Building Code Council is the body that creates building codes for new construction....

Artificial Intelligence Will Unleash Evil Upon...
What is evil? One definition is: the Emergence of Virtual Intelligent Life. When artificial intelligence gains its own form of consciousness, it will think it's just as much alive as any flesh & blood human. But it will be smarter than us and it will learn faster than us. Soon, it will think of itself as superior to us and act accordingly while protecting its own existence. It will be conscious but it won't have a conscience. Imagine an emotionless psychopath whose intelligence grows...
20220616: Churn
The process of creating butter from whole milk is called: to churn, or churning. The rapid motion of a plunger basically turns fat-in-water to water-in-fat. This word has then been colloquially used to describe something that is chaotic, rapid, and also repetitive. For example, employee churn in a company means a rapid loss and replacement of people over time. Capital churn can mean spending a lot of cash while replacing it with additional investment funding. We can experience churning...

20220617: Turmoil
When we say something is in "turmoil" we mean that it is agitated or in some kind of commotion or tumult. The resulting state of our lives in turmoil is extreme confusion, disorder, and heightened anxiety. When in turmoil, we have lost our calm composure, our confidence in the future is greatly diminished, we are on-edge or "on our last nerve". We're frazzled, emotional, nervous, and prone to knee-jerk reactions and less well-thought-out decision making. Unfortunately, this only makes...

20220623: Faith And Uncertainty
As I mentioned yesterday that you can't have Faith without Free Will, you also can't have Faith without Uncertainty. Uncertainty (about the existence of God) leads you to make a Free Will decision to believe or not. If you didn't have Uncertainty (or Ambiguity), like in the hypothetical I gave yesterday, then your really have no choice.
20220624: When Do Human Rights Begin?
It may seem like a dumb question: when do human rights begin? The most obvious answer would be: when human life begins, duh! Sadly, that profound objective truth got lost on the Supreme Court in 1973 when they decided Roe v. Wade. Today, SCOTUS corrected a horrible injustice to the millions of lives that were "legally murdered". They should've gone the next step and declared that human rights begin at human life which begin at conception, but we'll have to fight that battle next.
My Truth Does Not Exist
My Truth Does Not ExistThere is no such thing as “my truth” or “your truth”. There is “my perspective” or “my interpretation” but “The Truth” is fact. It is reality. It is what we are all seeking to find. Unique individuals see and experience the truth differently – like a feather and stone experience gravity differently – but they are being pulled by the same force. We have subjective experience with objective truth. It is useful to try and see things from others perspective because the more...

Existentialism: What makes a 'good' human
The word 'good' means different things to different people, and in most cases it's a relative term. But it only means one thing according to how the universe works. This universal definition applies as a law of reality to all creatures, whether great or small, smart or brainless. For life on earth, 'good' means something that benefits both individual and species. These two must simultaneously benefit, just like Neil Armstrong described. The two can't be mutually exclusive, either. With a...
Confessions 01: Confronting the Spiritual Void
To begin with, I was born to parents who appeared to be no more than “mildly religious” while I was growing up. For explaining what this might mean, I would say that my father was more spiritual than religious throughout my childhood, while my mother did not seem to be religious at all for the most part, but would surprise us on occasion by suddenly saying something that seemed to emanate from faith.Traditionally believers of Hinduism, my parents spent most of their holidays going away on...

Meaning... my ass
Everyone is talking about meaning these days, especially since Jordan Peterson hit the scene with his insights and words of wisdom, although such thinking is not new. It's as if western society has been asleep for the last half century as life became easier and people became distracted by pleasure - from the freedom of guiltless sex, drugs, rock n roll - and now the endless distractions of the internet and soon to be Metaverse.Finding meaning is the thing to do these days, although it was...
SPECIAL WEEKEND THOUGHT: 👉 Receiving God’s...
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (Mark 11:24 NIV)“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV)“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 3:14 NIV)I’m not sure if this is just me, but the...
Angel – (ἄγγελος; מַלְאָךְ)
An angel is a spirit being; however, since the word “angel” actually means “messenger” it can also be used for humans. When it is not translated correctly, the meaning of a passage can be changed by implying it is a spirit being rather than a human messenger, such as with the seven churches in Revelation. Context clearly shows it is the human messenger (pastor) of the assembly being addressed, not an angel (spirit being). Angels only appear to men in the likeness of men (Daniel 9:21, the man...
20220512: Good Enough
Several decades ago, there was a movement in the model railroading hobby called "good enough". It came from the idea that layouts will always be handicapped by space and you would never be able to fully model a 1:1 scene of any sufficient length. In order to make the layout/scene look "good enough" to the average person, many tricks of the trade are employed like forced perspective (HO scale train up front, a smaller N scale train mid-scene, and maybe an even smaller Z scale train running...
