I'm not a NY resolution type person, I'm a constant work in progress-but I plan to finish the Bible. We have a busy year ahead (the wedding, honeymoon, moving, hopefully a later-in-the-year pregnancy) and I think this will be a great time investment. I hope to finish before the wedding, if possible.

I just finished Proverbs and I had a blast reading it. It wasn't difficult to read. It was fun to compare my notes to my fiancés notes in his high school bible from 1991. Next is Genesis (my next book has changed a few times, so it still may).

I think after reading this I have a better understanding of "Fear of the Lord." I interpret this as a sort of self-awareness, a causal connection between behaviors and consequences. I think this is the best way to describe this to an atheist. I like to think of it as an acknowledgment that I don't have ultimate control, but when I do have some amount of control on a much smaller scale, God is watching and judging. God is not judging in effort to later inflict shame, but God is watching with hopeful eyes. Fear of the Lord is acknowledging God-humbling yourself. Fearing the Lord is trusting in the present, planning for the future, and hopefully learning from the past.
