One: thanks to Nana. I have added a definition of hijra to ‘The Trans Fast-Buck Industry.’

Two: the left has managed a tricky little thing: swapping out the term ‘biological sex’ for ‘gender.’ Trump recently said, ‘There are only two genders’; but that’s wrong.

And the distinction between sex and gender is at the very heart of this entire political s**t-blizzard – so, to be clear:

there are only two sexes. There are as many genders as we invent.

The notion of gender performativity simply ‘deletes’ biology from the political equation. It doesn’t matter what the biological form of your body is. The postmodernists argue that ‘sex = gender, and gender (which is in your head) = what you really are, regardless of your biological form.’

It is the distinction between biological sex and in-your-head gender that underpins the politics that allows your depressed teenage daughter to have her breasts amputated. So let’s work together to get this one figured out!

Three: a quick tour of gender.

Yours truly, readers, has embarked on a project to better understand the global cultural reality of gender. We have a map with thirty-something notes on societies with more than two genders.

But I began with three that I remember from uni: hijra and travesti and muxe.

There is already a spectrum emerging. The Mexican muxe, for example, are, by modern standards, pretty ordinary. They are effeminate men. Some are homosexual, some not.

[Oh look! I just found this: “Beyond Gender: Indigenous Perspectives, Muxe” – Ah! The journo doesn’t know her subject! It shouldn’t be ‘beyond gender.’ It should be ‘beyond sex.’ Men-dressed-as-women only makes sense as ‘beyond sex.’]

But on the other side of the spectrum are the hijra. We can only assume that either left-wingers are ignorant or they think that it's really cool for guru/pimps to bully dirt-poor people into have their genitals removed so they can be better prostitutes and beggars.

‘My body was not mine at all; the hijra community controlled it . . . ’

‘Nodi’s narrative draws the attention . . . [that] the body-modification decision was not in her control.’

(The English is odd because the author is not a native speaker, but it’s a five-star-quality text!) Snigdha, P. 197
